It's not unusual to describe the dad in the "Prodigal Son" parable—today's Gospel—as "loving and forgiving." Along with those virtues, picture him as patient. That image led Fr. Chuck to portray this classic story as an example of "Bearing Wrongs Patiently," a Spiritual Work of Mercy.
